Qnet: The Internet as a safety net for same-sex attracted young people

Information about non-heterosexual sexuality and relationships is often not available through the sources generally available to young people. The AIDS Action Council was concerned that same-sex attracted youth in Canberra were not getting relevant information about safe-sex and relationships.

Qnet.org.au is a online-based project to empower same-sex attracted youth and provide information about sexuality and relationships in an environment that is safe and accessible.

The project was launched in 2003 with the assistance of a HealthPact grant.

At the Australian Health Promotion Association 2005 Annual Conference, David Mills presented the following paper on the project, titled "Claiming Our Space: Challenges of using the Internet to empower and support same-sex attracted young people". The paper is available in the following formats:
