Ever wanted to know what goes on behind closed doors in Canberra's gay community? Were you one of the men 'probed' in November last year? Thanks to the support of 282 men who completed the survey, we have a very useful picture of the community today.

Community launch and forum

The results are in from the Gay Community Periodic Survey - Canberra 2006. We're hoping that these results will be able to prompt some discussion about what is happening in our community. Among the findings of the study are that most gay men in Canberra are:

This important research impacts on the work of many staff and volunteers in government, clinical settings and community organisations.

Notes

  1. 22.2% of respondents who had casual sexual partners sometimes did not use a condom.
  2. 59.9% of respondents had been tested for HIV in the last 12 months
  3. Of men with a regular partner, 84.4% had a spoken agreement about sex within the relationship and 73.3% had an agreement about sex outside the relationship.
