Information for stall holders
What happens at Fairday?
Community groups and businesses set up information stalls and retail stalls for the afternoon. There is entertainment, usually in the form of different musicians, choirs, local entertainers and the annual pet parade. A limited amount of food and beverages are for sale, usually by local community members and/or their supporters. Up to 600 members of the LGBT community and the wider community attend.
Why is it good for community groups to have a stall at Fairday?
This is an opportunity for community groups to showcase what you do, and to provide you with the opportunity to invite and meet new people who may be interested in participating in your group.
There may be people who are new to Canberra who are looking for something to do, or to make new friends. There may be people who don’t realise that your group exists and it’s just the type of social group they have been looking for.
Social groups are vital to the health and well being of our community. By hosting a group you are assisting to keep your LGBT community vibrant, diverse and inclusive.
Stalls at Fairday also provide a valuable service to the wider community including families, friends and supporters of our LGBT community. They also attend Fairday to support their loved ones and also to collect information and have a greater understanding of the LGBT community in Canberra.
Why is it good for businesses to have a stall at Fairday?
This is the one day of the year where the Canberra LGBT community gathers in this way. There are many people who attend this event that do not attend other events held throughout the year and the event even attracts visitors from interstate.
Because of the type of event it is, it creates a niche market. Many people come to Fairday with the purpose of buying themselves items particular marketed at the LGBT community or they buy themselves gifts! It also provides those business people who identify as LGBT a unique opportunity to meet and market to their own communities.
Many people in the LGBT community look for businesses or services that are LGBT ‘friendly’ and Fairday is a great way to promote your business. If you are a LGBT friendly business, then the LGBT community would love to meet you. Even, if you are unable to attend Fairday you may be interested in sponsoring a community group stall and gain positive exposure.
Stall information
There are two different stall sizes, small and large.
Small, is one table and two chairs and will suit most community groups.
Large, is one to three tables and will suit most businesses.
Stall fees
- Free for community groups.
- $50 for businesses, with an additional fee of $10 each for tables if you require them.
Shade cover
Westlund House has grassy areas around the building. There are some trees at the front of the building. If you are able to bring some sort of shade cover this would be most appreciated. Many businesses have marquees that they set up. You will need to indicate upon registering if you intend to bring shade cover. The comfort and needs of all stallholders needs to be considered when mapping out the location of the stalls.
Everyone attending Fairday is encouraged to wear sunscreen and a suitable hat.
Public liability insurance
Businesses are required to provide a copy of their current cover note. Community groups attending Fairday are not required to have their own public liability insurance.
