World AIDS Day 2007

World AIDS Awareness Week, culminating in World AIDS Day on the 1 December, is commemorated worldwide to raise awareness of the continuing impact of HIV/AIDS. In Canberra, the AIDS Action Council is co-ordinating a number of events during the week to raise awareness in the community of the continuing impact of HIV and AIDS.

Events

Chief Minister's Breakfast

Chief Minister's BreakfastThis annual event recognises the local, national and international impacts of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Time: 7.30 am, Monday 26 November

Venue: Hudsons Café National Botantic Gardens.

Cost: $26 per person. Full breakfast included.

Community Spotlight

A special radio program on living with HIV in Canberra. Listen in on Community Switchboard Radio 2XX 98.3FM.

Time: 6.00 pm, Monday 26 November

Living Positive: Women and HIV

Forum held in conjunction with Amnesty International focusing on the impact of HIV/AIDS on women.

Time: 6.00 pm, Thursday 29 November

Venue: Canberra Museum & Gallery.

Cost: Free.

World AIDS Day Fair

Stalls and awareness raising activities, including red ribbon sales, during the course of the day near the fountain in front of Canberra Centre on City Walk, Civic.

Time: 11.00 am to 3.00 pm, Friday 30 November

Interfaith Service

Carillon in redOrganised by All Saints Anglican Church this service features representatives from a number of religious faiths and offers a quiet reflection to remember those who have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS.

Time: 5.30pm, Friday 30 December

Venue: The Carillon, Aspen Island, Wendouree Drive.

A Night in the Palms

A Night in the Palms flyerThe businesses of Palmerston Lane are generously hosting a special street fair. The lane will be closed off to traffic and opened up to live music, street performance, food, drink and more!

Red ribbons

Red RibbonWe encourage everyone to wear a red ribbon to show their awareness of HIV/AIDS and their support of people living with HIV/AIDS. Red ribbons are available from the AIDS Action Council, and supporting businesses for a suggested donation of $2 each.

If you have or know of a business that is willing to display a Red Ribbon Box or want to arrange a Red
Ribbon morning or afternoon tea at your workplace during AIDS Awareness Week to help raise money for
