The work of the AIDS Action Council is informed by many health promotion documents. Arguably the most influential is the Ottawa Charter, presented over 20 years ago. The five action areas of the Charter provide a useful framework for evaluating where health promotion activities need to be refocussed.
A number of campaigns and projects are initiated each year by the AIDS Action Council in an effort to eliminate the spread of the virus, and to increase the quality of life for people infected and affected by the HIV virus.
The Council has an extensive collection of publications, audio-visual materials that document the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Use of the library is by appointment. For information about the library, please contact the Community Education and Health Promotion Unit.
