STRIP Clinic: simple and confidential sexual health testing, now with added PrEP

STRIP Clinic

Accessing sexual health checks regularly is an essential part of a healthy sex life, and we're making it even simpler to get tested!
STRIP clinics is been designed to make it easier and more comfortable for the LGBTIQ communities to look after our sexual health. The STRIP clinics are quick and easy as well as free to access – they are anonymous and no Medicare card or booking is required. STRIP clinic also offers prescriptions for PrEP. Friendly and professional nurses from the Canberra Sexual Health Centre and Capital Health Network are in attendance and your results are available the following week in person, or sooner over the phone or via text message*. Consultations take 30 to 45 minutes. No appointment is necessary but we suggest booking to minimise your wait time. If you are coming for PrEP prescription please let us know so you can be directed to the appropriate practitioner.
Tests conducted at STRIP clinics are looking for asymptomatic STIs, those that do not always have obvious symptoms, including;
  • HIV
  • Syphilis
  • Hepatitis’ A, B and C
  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhoea
All tests are voluntary and can be discussed with the nurses. The tests are designed to be as non-invasive as possible, and some samples are self-collected in privacy.
PrEP prescriptions are dispensed by a nurse practitioner at no charge. We do not supply PrEP medication at this service. If you are a student, receiving financial, disability or other government support, or experiencing short term financial difficulties you can ask about access to our Free PrEP Voucher program, provided in collaboration with Green Cross Pharmacy.  We also sell HIV Self Test Kits if you would prefer to take this test at home. Kits cost $30.00 and come with a simple to follow instruction booklet and YouTube video.
